On September 19, 1827, a struggle broke out with a Mississippi River sandbar. What started off as a proper duel involving two notable Louisiana households ended in a skirmish through which Jim Bowie, originally merely a supporter about the sidelines, was shot and stabbed just before drawing out a sizable knife and killing a man named Norris Wright.
